Dry your eyes for a moment: You can still experience the choreography of dance legend Merce Cunningham, who died Sunday at 90. This weekend, the Joyce Theater and River to River’s “Evening Stars” series welcomes the Merce Cunningham Dance Company in a site-specific performance that uses some of the influential choreographer’s best moves from his seven-decade career as a principal definer of the genre. The waterfront lawn of Rockefeller Park is the inspiration—whether that means maritime themes or a riff on the skyline of New Jersey, expect it to be a fully charged memorial of a show.
