–Pearl Jam have put together an online scavenger hunt to promote upcoming album Backspacer. The band has placed nine images (designed by political cartoonist Tom Tomorrow) thoughout the internet (view one here). If you find all nine images, Eddie Vedder will play a private acoustic concert in your living room with a setlist of your choice. Just kidding. You get a free download.
–Wavves have announced a fall tour following frontman Nathan Williams’ surgery for a broken wrist. The band will play two New York gigs: September 24 at Santos Party House (tickets here) and the following night at some as yet undetermined location, courtesy of Todd P. For a taste of what to expect, our own Rob Harvilla caught Wavves’ post-meltdown gig earlier this month at the Bowery Ballroom.
— Green Day have selected the team to turn American Idiot into a musical. The players include director Michael Mayer, who worked on Spring Awakening, choreographer Steven Hoggett, and music supervisor Tom Kitt. Spring Awakening lead producers Ira Pittleman and Tom Hulce are producing the musical. It runs September 3rd to October 11th in Berkely California. Billie Joe Armstrong also told the AP he wants to make American Idiot into a film along lines of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. We sorta wish 1994 Green Day could talk some sense into 2009 Green Day.
–Underrated harmony-infused folk-rock traditionalists Dr. Dog are leaving longtime label Park the Van and signing to Anti-Records. The band heads into the studio in August to record the follow-up to last year’s Fate with producer Rob Schnapf (Beck, Foo Fighters, Elliott Smith).
