Booze News: Using Apps to Drink Wine; Making Beer Last Longer


Wine apps have come a long way. The Wine Enthusiast Guide app, Snooth app, and Drync will each help you better find and track the bottles you’ve drunk or want to drink. The latter even lets you Twitter what you’re drinking.

There is more than one way to make a cocktail. Stirring and shaking are just two techniques bartenders use. There’s also rolling, layering, muddling, and the fine art of swizzling.

Most of the gin distilleries in London disappeared in the last 200 years. Now a renaissance of gin production may be budding in the British capital. A new copper-pot distillery in west London is the first new gin distillery in the city in 189 years.

Zane Lamprey is the host of a show about drinking called Three Sheets that airs on the Fine Living Network. The show follows him to various destinations as he samples local libations–none of which has proven to be a good hangover cure.

Researchers have found that removing riboflavin, or vitamin B2, which causes changes to beer’s flavor when it’s exposed to light, can prolong the shelf life of beer. The technique could also be applied to other beverages, such as milk.
