Tyshawn Sorey

Y’all may know him as a devastating drummer with a talent for chopping beats in a way that accounts for both hip-hop and higher mathematics. But Sorey’s also a progressive composer whose sound sculptures actively employ silence and forthrightly mess with expected dynamics. He’s curating the famed Loisaida art/music space this month, and tonight he not only interfaces with traps and tabla player Dan Weiss at the early show, but debuts his guitar trio in the later; they have at least a couple of ghostly zen tone poems in its book.
