Get Ready for Puerto Rico’s the Taco Maker; You May Not Recognize Sam Sifton After All


The Organic Center in Boulder is refuting claims made by a widely covered British study that found organic foods are not more nutritious than conventional. The Organic Center’s own 2008 report showed that “organic foods were, on average, 25 percent higher” in nutrients.

Just as food trends are changing, so are food snobs. Being a foodie once meant knowing one’s truffles and foie gras. Now, it’s knowing one’s Queens taco trucks and best Bronx pizza.

Newly named Times food critic Sam Sifton is trying to maintain anonymity despite his photograph circulating the Internet. But, says Sifton, that photo looks nothing like him now. Apparently, he is heavier and has more hair.

Puerto Rico’s Mexican fast-food chain the Taco Maker has plans to open at least 40 stores over a 10-year period in Manhattan, including a handful of stand-alone restaurants. The first is expected on the Upper East Side within nine months.

Brook Park in the Bronx is a city park with its own vegetable garden planted by neighborhood teenagers. The gardeners have also been asked by Columbia University to help survey the area for other empty lots that can be used for vegetable gardens.
