Sometimes artists excel at re-doing what other artists already did pretty beautifully themselves. In the music industry, we call these “cover versions.”
Not that you asked, but my favorite covers of all time are:
“Over The Rainbow” by Patti LaBelle. The version that makes you think, “I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”
“Tainted Love” by Soft Cell. Even more slyly taunting than Gloria Jones’ original version, and that’s saying a lot.
My least favorite cover versions of all time are:
“Turn The Beat Around” by Gloria Estefan. Vicki Sue Robinson turned it around way better.
and “Everlasting Love” by Gloria Estefan. Sorry, Gloria, but maybe you should stick to your congas.
