Cecil Taylor


Having turned 80 in March, the world’s preeminent jazz modernist continues to unravel the infinite permutations of his personal vocabulary with hurricane-force commitment. Taylor, who’s been introducing recent concerts with poetry, is also an explosively kinetic dancer of the keys, a Merce Cunningham-like strategist exploring an alternate universe of jazz practices with a half-century’s nuanced spelunking under his heavyweight belt.
