Stanley Baker, British cinema’s reigning tough bloke throughout the 1950s, plays a dare-devil trucker in this highly effectively, somewhat politicized cousin to Clouzot’s existential nail-biter Wages of Fear. A classic B, it was directed by blacklisted Hollywood exile Cy Enfield. Peggy Cummins, famous as the sharp-shooter in Gun Crazy, is the dame.
