Madonna Tells Off Romanians, Who Tell Her to Get Out and Take Those Filthy Gypsies With Her

Madonna’s world tour seems destined to provoke international incidents. She had already riled Poles by planning to perform on the Feast of the Annunciation, and they retaliated by sending prayer-bombs to kill two of her stagehands. Now Madge has done the unthinkable in Romania: spoken in defense of history’s greatest monsters. We are of course speaking of the Gypsies…

“I’ve been paying attention to news reports and it has been brought to my attention, that there is a lot of discrimination against Romanies and Gypsies in general in Eastern Europe,” the singer said during what had been a well-received show. “It made me feel very sad… We don’t believe in discrimination, we believe in freedom and equal rights for everyone…” etc.

The crowd reportedly jeered Madonna — whether because they’re bigots or because she was going on too long with the speech we can’t say. Either is possible: Madonna is a pain in the ass, and Romanians do hate the gypsies. Madonna later explained that the Romany musicians who have accompanied her at these performances — including Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hutz — partly inspired her speech.

As we have lost interest in her music, we look forward to Madonna causing this kind of outrage everywhere she goes. When she gets back home, for example, she can rag on us for our prejudice against our fellow Americans. She doesn’t have to be too specific — wherever she gives such a speech, it will be appropriate, and result in howls of protest and perhaps gunfire. Now that’s entertainment!
