It’s Allen Ginsberg’s Village once again this weekend, as the annual HOWL! Festival invades the Beatnik’s old stomping grounds. The festival, named for Ginsberg’s famous subversive poem, began in 2003 as an East Village–centric arts and culture fair, and has grown into quite the elaborate festival. This weekend, you’ll find the usual free outdoor activities on two stages that the fest has been doing for years, including tonight’s reading of “Howl,” tomorrow’s Hip-Hop HOWL! (a live mixtape showcase), and Sunday’s Low Life Howlucination burlesque and drag show hosted by the Jackie Factory’s Johnny Dynell and Chi Chi Valenti. But that’s not all: associate producers Nathaniel Siegel and Hattie Hathaway have put together a month-long lineup of arts throughout the Village that would make any true Beat proud.
