Celebrating Sheila Lukins

by

A memorial service was held yesterday for Sheila Lukins, the pioneering author, with Julee Rosso, of The Silver Palate Cookbook, who died over the weekend after battling brain cancer for several months. Grub Street attended the service, and has a report here. Lukins helped to change the culinary landscape of the early ’80s, introducing legions of curious home cooks to ingredients ranging from balsamic vinegar to creme fraiche. According to GS, the mood at the service was “surprisingly joyous,” though given Lukins’s rich, exuberant legacy, that seems entirely fitting.
