Nice. First comes news of the sublimely art-damaged WFMU Fest, and now another weirdo fest is coming to NYC–The Musicka Mystica Maxima Festival, “Two nights of Musick made by practicing magicians or practicing musicians who’s work celebrates the Magical lifestyle, as well as public performances of Ceremonial and other Magick ritual.” In other words, total insanity. The bands: Genesis Breyer P-Orridge, of Throbbing Gristle/Psychic TV (the former of whose recent spate of shows were some of the best this city has seen in years), Baltimore analog freak noise duo Nautical Almanac, Old Time Relijun refugee Arrington de Dionyso, John Zorn & Bill Laswell, and Lungfish’s Dan Higgs, without whom you can’t really can’t have a magick festival in the first place. Full formidable lineup on the flyer above. The two-day festival takes place September 21-22 at Santos Party House and is presented by the Ordo Templi Orientis U.S.A., the shadowy former-Mason cult once headed by head witchmaster Aleister Crowley. One of OTO’s central tenets? “Love is the law, love under will.” Yup. Tickets here, or at Other Music.
