Van Jones, now the former Obama Special Advisor for Green Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation at the White House Council on Environmental Quality (aka green jobs czar) who got into a spot of bother for calling Republicans assholes, was recently shown to have other political liabilities. He had signed in 2004 a petition calling for a 9/11 investigation which was sponsored by, and contained questions (“How were the FBI and CIA able to release the names and photos of the alleged hijackers within hours…”) consonant with the beliefs of, 9/11 truthers. Also, his long-known connection with the effort to get convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal out of prison was revived as rightbloggers discovered he had participated in a CD of “freedom fighter music” supportive of that cause. On Sunday Jones resigned, complaining of the “lies and distortions” used to force his removal. The spin on the left is that Jones was a good man brought down by the right wing, and the spin on the right is that Jones was a bad man brought down by the right wing.
