Sounding like a Vampire Weekend cover band, L.A.’s Princeton (named after a street in Santa Monica) bear the trappings of a prepster Kwassa soundscape with Afro-poppin’, ukulele-tinged indie rock, though a less lazy critic would cite the Kinks. Though “Best I Ever Had” has more heat, the song of the summer is so “Calypso Gold,” a gleeful post-psych wall of sound that makes Fleet Foxes sound like bearded hacks. Currently touring with Ra Ra Riot and Wavves, watch Princeton rewrite the Ivy League tonight at Union Hall with the brainy Phil and the Osophers and lit nerds Ice Palace. Don’t worry, dude—you can finish Infinite Jest later.
