‘Smart Choices’ Not So Smart; Bruni Trashes Ninja


President Obama told Men’s Health magazine that taxing soda and other sugary drinks is an idea worth exploring. “Every study that’s been done about obesity shows… a correlation between increased soda consumption and obesity,” he said.

The proposed Kraft Foods takeover of Cadbury has the residents of the small Quaker town of Cadbury in central England up in arms. “I think they’ll destroy what Cadbury brought up,” said a former employee.

The Smart Choices campaign features green checkmark labels on hundreds of popular food packages that are supposed to be considered healthy, including such sugary cereals as Cocoa Krispies and Froot Loops, which are “horrible choices.”

At his farewell party on the Spotted Pig’s private third floor, which was attended by such A-listers as Eric Ripert, Tom Colicchio, and April Bloomfield, Frank Bruni said that Tribeca Japanese Ninja was the worst of his tenure as critic.

Sylvia Schur, who helped develop products like Clamato and Cran-Apple juice, and who wrote recipes for Betty Crocker, but also helped conceive menus for restaurants like the Four Seasons in Manhattan, died Wednesday at age 92.
