News Roundup: Taylor Swift Speaks on the Whole Kanye Thing, Deerhunter Announce Hiatus, Islands Stream Vapours, and Ladyhawke Play the Apple Store Tonight


–Taylor Swift was on The View this morning, talking about what it was like to be the other person on that infamous VMA stage: “I think my overall thought process went something like: ‘Wow, I can’t believe I won… This is awesome… Don’t trip and fall… I’m gonna get to thank the fans, this is so cool… Oh, Kanye West is here!… Cool haircut… What are you doing there? And then, Ouch. And then, I guess I’m not gonna be able to thank the fans.’ ” Our guess is that transcription is not verbatim, and that there were probably a few other things in there between the ‘Ouch’ and the fans. But yeah, the fans!

–Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox announced from an ATP stage this past Saturday that the band is taking a hiatus. It is not the first time Deerhunter has taken a hiatus. The hiatus is to last “a long time.” We’ll see.

–Exclaim is streaming the new Islands record, Vapours. The album comes out next Tuesday.

— Ladyhawke, currently on the road as part of that still somewhat inexplicable Ida Maria/Semi Precious Weapons ‘Perez Hilton Presents’ tour (it’s at Irving tomorrow night), will take advantage of a night off to play a free show at the SoHo Apple Store at 7pm, reports Brooklyn Vegan.
