Tombs+Burnt By the Sun

Tombs are stepping up to be one of NYC’s finest extreme metal exports. The three-piece’s sonic hammerings are the perfect mind-meld between post-rock/metal riffage (a là Mastodon) and the noise-core of yesteryear’s Amphetamine Reptile bands. Back in the early ’00s, Burnt By the Sun released one of the best American metalcore releases, The Perfect Is the Enemy of the Good. Sadly, it was ahead of the curve and the band disappeared, unable to cash in on the trend. They’re back now and the new Heart of Darkness shows a still-intact hunger and dexterity. With 1000 Knives.
