The old Chicory Brooklyn space is finally getting a new tenant: after sitting vacant for over a year, the storefront is the soon-to-be new home of Ultimate Burger and Hot Dogs. According to Lost City, a menu posted in the window advertises several varieties of wieners and patties, as well as a bowl of tater tots, slathered with anything you like. Given the number of actual tots in the neighborhood, it seems like the restaurant’s owners have been doing their homework. And they need to: located on a sleep stretch of Degraw Street, the storefront occupies a restaurant dead-zone. While Chicory’s fried chicken dinners and beef brisket melts courted a local following, it had a harder time luring diners almost three long blocks from Smith Street’s Restaurant Row. But perhaps Ultimate will succeed where Chicory failed: if the conventional wisdom of the day holds true, there’s no distance to far for a burger.
