With the New York Wine & Food Festival nearly upon us, it’s a perfect time to reflect upon the fact that the number of food festivals across the country has in recent years grown at an astounding and seemingly recession-proof rate. The Wall Street Journal today published an article that explores the food festival economy, and discovers that there’s little that affluent foodies won’t pay for, plunging stocks be damned. And members of the public aren’t the only ones eating it all up: chefs stand to make up to $100,000 just for showing up.
