As the Bye Bye Birdie revival plays on Broadway, it’s all too fitting that a sort of retro comeback for Ann-Margret–who vamped up the movie version several notches–is in the works.
I hear eight TV variety specials that Ann did in the golden age are being cut up and thrown into a one-hour documentary filled with her vavoomy entertaining skills, the kind that made her the original Britney Spears, but better.
After that, they expect to put out the shows in their entirety–like Rhinestone Cowgirl, a dazzling ’70s wiggle-fest with special guests Bob Hope, Perry Como, and Minnie Pearl.
If this sounds similar to the kind of thing that happened with eternal showgirl Mitzi Gaynor late last year, it’s because it’s being done by the same people.
So brace yourselves for some swingin’ fun, you petulant pleasure seekers.
