Billed as sort of an anti-Guitar Hero competition, the Shred for Your Life Guitar Battle pits 12 aspiring local six-stringers against each other to see who can play the most notes per second. Musicality and showmanship are likely factors, too, since the judge is Andrew W.K. (who released an instrumental, “spontaneous” solo piano record on vinyl earlier this year—which also contains a lot of notes) and the optional rhythm section consists of Battles and ex-Helmet drummer John Stanier and Jah Division bassist Brad Truax. Bring your sense of humor, and earplugs.
