Marathon: Keflezighi of U.S., Tulu of Ethiopia Win

Meb Keflezighi finished first among men in the 40th Annual New York City Marathon with a time of 2:09:15. He’s the first American to take the laurels since 1982. Derartu Tulu of Ethiopia took the women’s title at 2:28:52, with the 2007 and 2008 winner Paul Radcliffe, who apparently experienced knee problems, in fourth place . The 37-year-old Tulu’s victory is a comeback; she won distance running gold medals at the 1992 and 2000 Olympics, and prepped for this race with a half-marathon in Philadelphia in September, in which she finished fourth.

The winners had already broken the tape when these folks were receiving the plaudits of Greenpoint citizens at Mile 12 at Manhattan and Bedford Avenues, as the Doors’ Roadhouse Blues played on speakers set up for the occasion.
