A racially fueled debacle involving NASCAR, you say? Quelle surprise. Per The Food Section, ESPN broadcaster Bob Griese has been suspended for one week for a racist comment he made about a Colombian NASCAR driver. When asked where Juan Pablo Montoya was on a list of the top drivers in a NASCAR competition, Griese said he was “out having a taco.”
In an opinion piece on CNN.com, Ruben Navarrette Jr. accused Griese of “food racism.”
Montoya was unruffled: “I don’t really care to tell you the truth. Yeah, I don’t. I could say that I spent the last three hours eating tacos, but I was actually driving a car.”
FYI, Griese: In Colombia, they eat arepas.
