One of the pack leaders for the semi-recent neo-thrash movement, Ohio’s Skeletonwitch are good ‘ole hair-farming boys who tie their low-swinging beards (and speed-metal riffs!) with black metal knots. Fittingly they are headlining the Blackened Weekend, a three-day black metal fest spotlighting local bands of the ilk. This includes NYC-based openers Black Anvil, who may have a hardcore pedigree, but have masterfully trained themselves in the necromancy of tr00 kvlt grimness—the punk roots just up the groove factor.
