For almost a decade, we’ve known about the sizable simpatico between revered guitarist Hall and his occasional saxophone foil, Greg Osby. Both like to zigzag through an idea; each enjoys creating tension from counterpoint. As a team, they have no problem waxing romantic, but imbue that romance with a modern sense of mystery—something unexpected is always lurking in the shadows. Hall’s dedication to nuance also prompts Osby to focus on the music’s inevitable subtleties. They’ve got a great rhythm section for this gig. Should be heady stuff in the air when they reunite.
