It must be something in the water–the same day that we ran our account of tiki-adventuring at home, and a week after we discovered that Joe Swifka, formerly of Elettaria’s tiki Mondays, is now bartending at Flatiron Lounge, the Atlantic runs a story about the resurgence of the mai tai, and other tiki classics.
In the Atlantic’s account, Julie Reiner, of Flatiron Lounge and Brooklyn’s Clover Club, has this to say about the allure of tiki:
“We’ve gone in such a serious direction with cocktails (stirred booze with bitters). These are fun drinks. They’re outrageous!”
