There have been so many good movies made about drunks, you wonder why booze can inspire so many artists while ruining so many lives.
No matter. My personal favorites are:
Barfly, with Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway amazing as blowsy bottle buddies.
The Lost Weekend, Billy Wilder’s riveting look at a man’s demon obsession, complete with eye-popping hallucinations.
Leaving Las Vegas, a raw peek at alcoholism, which Oscar toasted with kegs of champagne.
And the best of all: The Days of Wine and Roses, with Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick superb as a couple that kept dragging each other to the nearest bar stool.
Your favorite, hiccup?
