Tonight! Shilpa Ray, The Cribs, and Arms

Shilpa Ray, formerly of splendidly volatile trash-punkers Beat the Devil, has probably the loudest, brassiest, most arresting voice in the city, with an extraordinarily bizarre sense of humor to match. Now presiding over the band Shilpa Ray & Her Happy Hookers, her latest MySpace blog update reads as follows: “I need your honest opinion folks, do I have to get an account on Twitter? Every fiber of my ludite mind tells me to fight against it. My heart tells me that I should get a boyfriend instead. My vagina tells me that the Twitter will help me get a boyfriend. SHUT UP VAGINA!!” Go to Death by Audio tonight and help her resolve this issue. Small Soft Black is there too.

Super-acerbic Brit pop-punkers the Cribs are at Bowery Ballroom with the Von Bondies (remember them?); request “We Were Aborted” to get on their good side and then “Men’s Needs” to get what you want.

So the Harlem Shakes put out a pretty rad nerd-pop record (Technicolor Health) earlier this year and promptly broke up, freeing up guitarist Todd Goldstein to further indulge his sad-sack bedroom folk alter-ego, Arms. They’re/he’s at Pianos tonight. No crying unless you’re onstage.

Rob Thomas at the Beacon if you’re really into irony, or Rob Thomas.
