Leggero means “slight” or “light” in Italian, so it’s a mystery why the folks at Brooklyn’s Bar Tano dubbed this hearty panini the “Leggero.” Maybe it’s because the sandwich is meatless–however, it’s anything but scrawny.
The toasted bread oozes melted smoked mozzarella, plus a slick of fig preserves, and a heaping portion of garlicky sauteed escarole. Sure, it’s just a simple sandwich, but the flavors balance deliciously between bitter, sweet, and rich-cheesy.
