Canyon Passage

Dir. Jacques Tourneur (1946).
This great, dazzling, underrated and unconventional Western, Tourneur’s first color movie, set in a pioneering Oregon town circa 1856 is not without its Fordian moments, but in spite of a few brawls, it’s memorable largely for the director’s concentration on the massive beauty of the American landscape.
