Ray Davies

Unlike many oldies acts, Davies has a deep, influential catalog that he can draw on at will, thrilling fans not just with the relatively few hits the Kinks had but also with the glorious obscurities that fans savor. He’s reliving his catalog again but this time with a choir—like Townshend, he loves big concepts and tweaking classical conventions. The new singers make the rockers in his vault sound a little prissy but the wonderfully moist numbers (“Waterloo Sunset,” “Days”) actually sound better than ever.
