Man Evades Cops, Jumps Off George Washington Bridge

by

Last night around nine a guy pulled his red Pontiac Grand Prix out of the Sunoco station in Englewood Cliffs and headed onto the George Washington Bridge. As he had failed to yield to traffic, a police car came after him. They tried to pull him over, but he pulled the old stop-and-start on them, and drove erratically, striking another car, before he reached the upper level of the Bridge, where he stopped the car, ran to the south walkway, and jumped into the Hudson River.

The Cliffview Pilot reports the deceased is a New York state corrections officer from Middletown who had “argued with his wife earlier that morning.” He has not yet been more positively identified, nor his body recovered.
