This Weekend! Devo, Sonic Youth, Talib Kweli, and Devendra Banhart

So even Devo now is into this play-a-classic-album-in-its-entirety thing: They’re at the Fillmore at Irving Plaza Friday (Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!) and Saturday (Freedom of Choice). Have the courtesy to let that part of the setlist run out at least before you start hootin’ and hollerin’ for “Whip It.”

Friday’s also got Bishop Allen at Union Hall (for twee types) and Baroness at Bowery Ballroom (for not-at-all-twee types). Saturday’s big whoop, of course, is Sonic Youth at ye olde Terminal 5 with Dinosaur Jr. and Cold Cave. If you can’t get into that one, and if you’re just hearing about this from me now then that’s pretty likely, lick your wounds with the Beets at Death by Audio.

Sunday Talib Kweli and noted Michael Jackson fan Jean Grae are at Brooklyn Bowl, and why the hell not; Devendra Banhart’s at Town Hall and Camera Obscura’s at the Music Hall of Williamsburg.
