Angelika Kirchschlager

Strictly speaking, only glass-shattering full sopranos are supposed to be divas in the opera world, which is why the great mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager makes it a point to regularly sing lieder. These short-form Germanic songs are generally performed in more intimate venues, which do well to flatter the texture and nuance of her lower range. The Austrian singer, best known for her leading role in Nicholas Maw’s 2002 operatic adaptation of Sophie’s Choice, will perform pieces by Mahler, Brahms, and others. With Warren Jones on piano.
