Either inter-label shenanigans or one loooong manicure caused Kid Sister‘s debut album to be released a full year late; this time last year, the charming Chi-town rapper was high on the success of “Pro Nails” (featuring a cameo by Kanye West, pre–universal loathing) and had a full, kinetic set of tracks ready in Dream Date. That title has since been changed to Ultraviolet—why?—and the sparkiest track, “Family Reunion,” featuring David Banner, has been omitted—dear God, why?—but the result is still good-natured, catchy, electro-synth hip-hop. It’s just been buffed down.
