You Can’t Sign Kirsten Gillibrand’s Birthday Card Unless You Put Something In The Envelope

We wanted to sign Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s birthday card, especially when Ross Offinger sent us that nice note saying that Gillibrand “spends each and every day thinking about how she can fight for every New Yorker, and now is our chance to let her know just how much we appreciate the work that she does.”

As Offinger is Gillibrand’s finance manager, we should have known there’d be a catch. After we added our best wishes to the online birthday card and hit “Sign Now,” we were directed to a contribution page, which would not allow our best wishes to be processed without a donation. We tried using the “other” field, but were rejected (“An amount greater than zero is required”).

We would have called Gillibrand’s office about this but we didn’t want to spoil the surprise. Happy Birthday, Senator!
