Week in Review: Bros4Life

In the week our F2K crew quantitatively decided that though Nickleback and Gym Class Heroes are bad, William Hung and Hinder were a whole lot worse, we continued to count down the worst songs of the ’00s. That Santana song keeping you up at night? Well then definitely don’t read Christopher R. Weingarten’s creative reimagining of Korn’s thought process during the “Ya’ll Want a Single?” sessions.

Above, below, behind, and several meta-levels inside the scandal that pitted local photographer Kyle Dean Reinford against the internet’s most dangerous blogger, Hipster Runoff. Or as it came to be called, “A Bloggable New Story.”

Speaking of which: Free Gucci, Fuck Diplo, and the History of “Free _____”

“We learned how to fly on an airplane together,” Screaming Females guitarist Marissa Paternoster told us, regarding her band’s back pages. “We taught ourselves how to do everything.” A Sunny Day in Glasgow’s Ben Daniels had to do pretty much the same thing when his entire band dissolved into a morass of injury and dislocation: “Things kind of fell apart, yeah.”

On the download this week? Star Fucking Hipsters’ “3000 Miles Away” and Screens’ “Saturdays.” And at night? Live from the Paper Nightlife Awards, which honored quite a few sketchy people. (Musto excepted, of course)

RIP Jack Rose, a great guitarist and good man.

Todd P may be heading to Mexico; Jelly NYC Pool Parties are probably headed back to the Williamsburg waterfront; and McCarren Park is pretty much definitely becoming a swimming pool again, at this point.

Plus Impose’s Pitchfork jab, Ted Leo at the Bowery, The-Dream wearing some unforgivable riding boots, apartment shopping with the Clipse, the decade in music according to Kanye West, Jawbox on Fallon, Questlove’s unexpected 50 Cent endorsement, Fela! on Colbert, Chris Brown at Best Buy, Max Fish in Miami, Matt & Kim on bikes in Roseland and more, below. Looking for something to do tomorrow? We co-sign both the Hideous Gnosis black metal symposium and DJ Small Change’s Xmas-themed “Lose Yr Shit” soiree. How’s that for range? We’re back on Monday.
