Last weekend for free flu shots

by

With demand at far below capacity and an increased supply of vaccine on hand, the Department of Health is offering free H1N1 flu shots this weekend for all New Yorkers over the age of 4.

Last weekend’s 7,000 vaccinations, which were restricted to children, caregivers of children, pregnant women and adults with special health needs, fell far short of the 12,000 the clinics were set up to handle. So far, the city has used less than a quarter of the 2 million doses it has available.

As of Friday, the CDC has confirmed 33,490 hospitalizations and 1,445 deaths due to H1N1 since August. New York and New Jersey are 2 of the 11 states still reporting widespread flu activity.
