After Slint stopped playing moody anti-hardcore, guitarist/vocalist Brian McMahan started up the moodier, even more post-hardcore For Carnation. The group’s revolving cast of characters featured members of Slint, Tortoise, Shipping News, and others (at press time, it was unclear who the current members are). But the only thing more nebulous than the band’s lineup was its music, which sometimes was guitar symphonies and sometimes almost silent, drums-and-rhythm pieces. Thing is, they’re all captivating. The band reunited for the 10 Years of ATP festival in the UK; this is just one of a few of U.S. dates. With Mountains and a DJ set from Ben Vida.
