Village Tart Readying for Mid-January Opening


If its exterior is anything to go by, the Village Tart is all but ready to open its doors. Lesly Bernard’s Kenmare Street cafe, wine bar, and bakery recently shed its plywood skin, and its website has provided more details about the “small-portioned gourmet foods” and “adult beverages” that it will eventually offer. So we asked Pichet Ong, who’s been consulting on the menu, if opening day was indeed nigh.

“We’re just doing private parties and counter mock ups now until mid-[J]anuary,” Ong e-mailed. “‘[Y]ou can follow up online on [the] website.”

The website offers a preview of what the Tart will eventually offer, in mid-January or otherwise: expect a wide range of sweet and savory tarts, as well breakfast, salads, and coffee from Intelligentsia, Blue Bottle, Terroir, Ritual Roasters, and Dallis (what is this, the caffeine version of the Criterion Collection?). There are also “sassy lassis,” which presumably fit the “adult beverage” portion of the bill.
