The prolific playwright Young Jean Lee has accomplished quite a bit since her play, The Appeal, premiered at Soho Rep in 2004, but one thing she hasn’t done is finish her dissertation. Lee was working toward a Ph.D. in English at UC Berkeley when she left her thesis—on Shakespeare’s King Lear—unfinished and tried her luck in New York instead. Bringing it all full-circle, Lee’s latest play, Lear, juxtaposes text about the adult children of the aging Lear and Gloucester with Lee’s own experience with her terminally ill father.
Tuesdays-Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Jan. 7. Continues through Feb. 14, 2010
