If you know a little girl who looks like Little Debbie of the eponymous snack cakes — red-haired, rosy-cheeked, blue-eyed, and, of course, Caucasian — you can enter her into a contest to win a $5000 scholarship and her picture on packages of Little Debbie products.
The contest is part of the snack food’s 50th anniversary celebration this year. All “little” Little Debbies must be between 4 and 8 years old, and Little Debbie herself — yes, she is a real person! — will help select the finalists. The Tennessee-based family-owned company that makes Little Debbie has sold more than 150 billion of the snack cakes since 1960, enough to circle Earth more than 380 times. Unfortunately, this campaign sounds like it was conceived in 1960, back before little Black, Brown, and Asian girls were much of an issue.
