United Airlines plane makes emergency landing at Newark

Update: the Bergen Record is reporting that three passengers were slightly injured, according to an airline spokesman.

United Airlines Flight 634, an Airbus flying from Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, made an emergency landing at Newark Airport this morning after the right hand landing gear failed to deploy properly.

The crew got some signals they weren’t happy about, so they aborted their initial approach and flew low to have ground crew visually inspect the right hand landing gear, which, it turns out, didn’t open properly. They landed half an hour later without the landing gear deployed. Fifty three passengers were evacuated by slide. No-one was injured.

The Port Authority says the airport was temporarily shut down yet again (they are having an exciting month in Newark) and the FAA is reporting delays of up to an hour and forty minutes.
