Pentagram are the real deal Shaquille O’Neals of doom metal, dropping their first slabs of stoned-out, quasi-funky sludge back in 1972—a grimy version of Black Sabbath than was more backpatch than bumper sticker. The timeless gloom-merchants have since changed lineups a billion times, but still have vocalist Bobby Liebling, who’s got his mangy mane and a steely-eyed howl like Phil Lynott and Ozzy having an epic gloom-off.
