Fresh off his much-anticipated Carnegie master class for sopranos and pianists, Met Orchestra conductor James Levine returns to his day job for the classical equivalent of a greatest-hits medley; the orchestra, accompanied by Diana Damrau (soprano) will open with Schubert’s rollicking “Symphony No. 8, Unfinished,” meander through a Strauss-heavy body of arias (“Ich wollt’ ein Sträusslein binden,” “Ständchen,”), and end with Beethoven’s ubiquitous “Symphony No. 5.” As civilized as the cold January can be.
