A veteran of the legendary Detroit Music Institute and a frequent contributor to labels such as Planet E and Mahogani, Alton Miller plays deep house rooted in late Motown and Philly soul. Unlike lesser producers these days who seem to liberally sprinkle Latin influences to spice up otherwise bland tracks, his polyrhythms aren’t a gloss—he’s worked as a pro conga player. Like precursors Larry Levan and Ron Hardy, Miller gets house’s heightened emotionality right, always delivering a cathartic, nuanced set. With residents Eman, Lola, and DJ Spider.
