Here’s one way to chase those Monday blues away: a $75 BYO wine-pairing dinner. Starting today, the restaurant will highlight a different wine-producing region each Monday, and ask guests to bring their own bottle from said region. The usual $55 corkage fee will, of course, be waived. Chef Alfred Portale will design each Monday’s menu to go with the wines from the selected region. The first few Mondays will focus on Italy.
Beer Tasting Dinner
Loreley Restaurant & Biergarten (7 Rivington Street)
Join German beer expert Rudi Eilers for this $33 beer-and-food pairing event, featuring nine different Bavarian brews and a menu of German appetizers, pork roast stuffed with dried plums, and Black Forest cake for dessert. The beers to be tasted include Cologne Insider top-fermented ale Reissdorf Kolsch, traditional aromatic Spaten Lager from Munich, and “The Queen of German Beers”: Schneider Weisse Original.
Fragrance & Wine: A Sensory Exploration
Astor Center (399 Lafayette Street)
Part of the Intermediate Imbibing package, this class is all about following your nose. Let fragrance and wine professional Mary John Baumann show you how to use your olfactory prowess to better taste and appreciate wine. Six wines, each chosen for their aromatic profiles, will be tasted and paired with a spectrum of corresponding fragrances. What you learn won’t just help you impress your friends next time you crack open a bottle of Burgundy — it’ll also help you develop a “scent vocabulary.”
