This picture brought its director instant acclaim and international attention to the Japanese film industry. It presents the same incident (involving rape and murder) from four different points of view and thereby questions the existence of a single Truth. It was shot by Kazuo Miyagawa, Japan’s foremost cinematographer whose camerawork is fully equal to the compelling story. Few films have captured a sense of atmosphere as intensely as this one.
