Drink for Haiti: Restaurants Aren’t the Only Ones Pitching In


You don’t have to spend a fortune on a five-star meal to help Haiti. There are small, more thirst-quenching ways to do your part. In addition to stopping in for a pint at your neighborhood bar, you can also raise a glass of wine or a cocktail in support of the island.

Atlantic Cellars is hosting an in-store tasting event to benefit the Harding family, who are friends of the owners. In addition to a selection of wines, Atlantic will be pouring a handcrafted Cajun Spiced Rum from Old New Orleans, a Tannat from Uruguay, a rose from Provence, and a Furmint, which is a white wine from Hungary. Finger foods from nearby Ortine will also be served. All profits from the donation jar at the door will be sent directly to the Harding family in Haiti.

This Sunday, Bar Celona is hosting Hearts and Cocktails for Haiti. The event will feature a four-hour open bar serving rum punch, cocktails, beer, and wine for a $40 donation. Proceeds, which the organizers hope will reach $20,000, will go to the Red Cross. Expect to see bartenders-about-town like Jim Meehan of PDT and Lynnette Marrero of Rye House behind the bar, as well as representatives from LUPEC (Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails) and USBG (United States Bartenders’ Guild).
