Despite having some seriously good Sichuan food, Wu Liang Ye was in recent months more closely associated with picketing workers and allegations of ownership by the Chinese government. So it’s not entirely surprising that the restaurant has gone and changed its name.
Midtown Lunch has discovered that, after being closed for some months, the restaurant has re-opened as Mapo Tofu. Along with the new name, it’s reportedly got new owners and definitely has a new menu filled with authentic Sichuan dishes like mapou tofu and braised prawns with fermented rice and tomato sauce. With any luck, it’ll have new and improved labor practices, too.
